Job description
Your career in a new light
A key role in advancing our optical expertise, with a direct impact on the realization of innovative lighting solutions at the highest level.
Your job:
Analysis of initial optical requirements specifications from Product Management (target LDC, luminous flux, efficiency, UGR/glare, applicable standards, as well as mechanical and thermal constraints)
Evaluation of standard optics versus customized solutions, including the preparation of well-founded decision proposals considering technical, economic, timeline, and sustainability aspects
Creation and continuous maintenance of optical requirement specifications for external development partners (including light sources, CAD data, reference optics/LDCs, target values, as well as test and release criteria)
Technical coordination and management of external optical developments for reflectors, lenses, TIR optics, optical systems, films, prisms, and diffractive optics
Coordination of iterative design processes across optics, mechanics, electronics, and lighting design, ensuring seamless opto-mechanical integration
Verification of developed concepts in close alignment with XAL Lighting Design through lighting planning, simulations, evaluation of measurement data, and comparison with specifications
Planning, implementation, and evaluation of prototypes, soft tools, as well as 3D-printed and pre-series samples, including the preparation of release recommendations for tooling and external manufacturing
Specification of materials, surfaces, tolerances, functional areas, temperature requirements, and handling guidelines for optical components
Support of PDRS, quality planning, supplier approval, sampling, validation, and optical series release processes
Analysis of deviations in light distribution, efficiency, color shift, uniformity, and visual quality, including the definition and implementation of necessary tool or design adjustments
Continuous market analysis regarding standard solutions and technological innovations in the field of optics
Acting as the main technical contact for external optics suppliers
Qualifications and skills:
Completed technical education or degree in optics, photonics, physics, lighting technology, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a comparable field
Several years of experience in optical development, ideally in architectural lighting, automotive lighting, or optical plastic/metal components
Strong understanding of lighting engineering parameters such as LDC, luminous flux, efficiency, cut-off, UGR, glare parameters, uniformity, and color shift, as well as solid knowledge of photometric measurement techniques
Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and materials, including PC, PMMA, silicone, aluminum, coatings, films, injection molding, extrusion, and PVD
Experience working with external development partners and suppliers, as well as with technical documentation, specifications, validation, and series approvals
Knowledge of Relux and DIALux; experience with additional simulation tools is an advantage
Structured and self-reliant way of working, strong communication skills, a solution-oriented mindset, and enthusiasm for multidisciplinary and international collaboration
The position is classified with a minimum salary of € 4,000 gross per month. All employees stand out through their expertise, commitment, and personality. Depending on qualifications and experience, there is a willingness to offer a competitive and individually tailored package. Home office options are available after the onboarding phase in accordance with company guidelines.
